Biography
Danik McAfee is an Algonquin Métis, Two-Spirit, and French-Canadian director, actor, and arts educator dedicated to fostering the next generation of performers through innovative and inclusive theatre education. With over a decade of professional experience and a commitment to amplifying diverse voices, Danik brings a unique perspective to both the stage and the classroom.
As an educator, Danik has made a significant impact teaching Musical Theatre Performance at Artishow, a leading performing arts school in Gatineau, Québec. They directed multiple productions for the school’s Professional Vision Program, which prepares aspiring performers for theatre schools and professional careers. Additionally, Danik served as associate director on student productions at Sheridan College, contributing to the First New Drafts course, focused on developing new Canadian musicals.
Danik’s selected directing credits include SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical and Urinetown with MainStage Theatre in Toronto, as well as Beautiful Scars (Theatre Aquarius, workshops) and Come From Away (Gander, Assistant Director). In addition to directing, they provide private acting and audition coaching for students of all ages, helping them refine their skills and build confidence.
A graduate of the National Theatre School’s prestigious Directing Program, Danik was mentored by celebrated directors such as Jillian Keiley, Micheline Chevrier, Eda Holmes and Jackie Maxwell to name a few. They were also honoured with the Peter Dwyer Award from the Canada Council for the Arts, recognizing their excellence during studies and emergence as a promising voice in the arts. With diplomas in Musical Theatre Performance from Collège Lionel-Groulx and Randolph College for the Performing Arts, Danik combines professional expertise with a deep understanding of the craft in their teaching and directing.
Rooted in inclusivity and creative exploration, Danik’s work empowers young performers to discover their unique voices while pushing artistic boundaries. Their approach blends technical mastery with storytelling, inspiring and educating the next generation of theatre artists.
