Biography
Anique Mercier is a Toronto-born and based performer, producer, and educator. Having performed in everything from Shakespeare to Sondheim across the United States and Canada, she is a well-rounded artist whose diverse experience and versatility define her pedagogical style. She has an MM in Vocal Pedagogy, an MFA in Musical Theatre Performance, both from The Boston Conservatory, and a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Anique is an active teacher of musical theatre, classical and CCM (Crossover-Contemporary Music) repertoire, coaching a wide range of students at various stages of their musical journeys. As a voice teacher, she endeavors to aid her students in finding their most efficient, expressive, and stylistically flexible voices. Through the integration of anatomy and physiology-based teaching, a range of acting and voice and speech techniques, and a thorough understanding of the psychology surrounding sound production and performance, Anique’s students explore their entire voice in a way that is simultaneously fun and inspires confidence, healthy vocal production, and engaging performance skills. Anique sings because she loves it. Her primary goal is always to bring this love to her students by creating a comfortable, safe studio environment that gives each student their best opportunity to succeed while providing the technical tools to protect and cultivate their voices. Anique’s students have successfully booked several professional engagements, including the recent production of the American Repertory Theater’s production of Wild, featuring Idina Menzel.
Alongside her professional performance and teaching career, Anique is also the founder and artistic director of North Stage. This Toronto-based theatre company recently streamed a production of It’s a Wonderful Life which reached audiences in seven Canadian provinces and thirteen American states. Anique was not only a performer in and the producer of this production, but she also wrote lyrics to the original music featured in it.
