Athena So

Athena is a Toronto-based music director, pianist, and arts educator who is well-versed in Musical Theatre, Classical, and Pop genres.

Athena began her musical journey at the age of 5 as a classical pianist, training extensively through the RCM curriculums. As a recent graduate of York University’s Concurrent Music and Education program, Athena has studied pedagogical methods of Music and History in the high school level. She has also been teaching private piano lessons for over 6 years and private vocal lessons for 3. Athena strives to help students create personal goals and caters each lesson to help achieve them.

During her time studying music, Athena quickly found her passion in musical theatre, working as a music director, pit musician, and accompanist in the city. She has music directed several productions including Next to Normal, Shrek the Musical, and All Together Now. Athena joined Bravo in the fall of 2021 as the Senior Troupe music director and has worked on Drowsy Chaperone Jr. and We Will Rock You. Outside of Bravo, Athena can be found as a music director for The Second City TourCo shows and Training Centre, teaching students how to use music to enhance their improvisation skills. Whether it is music directing a show, accompanying vocalists, or teaching private lessons, what truly drives Athena’s passion is telling a story through music and inspiring others to do so as well.
