Biography
Tenor Mitchell Aldrich holds a Bachelor of Music Education – with a focus in Vocal and Choral Pedagogies – from the University of Western Ontario, and a Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.
Mitchell likes to keep all musical doors open, actively staying involved as a performer, teacher, composer, director, and member of ORMTA. As a voice teacher, Mitchell encourages students to develop their own unique instrument. He teaches everything from music theatre to classical and pop repertoire, and believes that with a solid technical foundation and vocal awareness, voices can flourish in all styles.
Beyond the voice, Mitchell encourages students to connect more deeply to their music through their scene, character, and text, to create compelling performances by well rounded artists. Music is so much more than the notes on the page; it is a vehicle for self-expression and discovery that creates thoughtful, creative, confident, and passionate individuals, ready to take on the world in anything they may do.
As a performer, Mitchell believes in keeping all doors open. He has performed across Canada and the United States and is equally at home on the musical theatre, operatic, choral, and pop music stages. Mitchell is also a passionate ensemble singer, performing everything from madrigals and motets to barbershop and a capella arrangements. As a soloist, his favourite credits include: Ferrando (Cosi Fan Tutte), Laurie (Adamo’s Little Women), Man 1 (Songs For a New World), Ryan (High School Musical), and Motel (Fiddler on the Roof).
When he’s not teaching or performing, Mitchell is also a Music Director (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Wizard of Oz, Dear Edwina), Stage Director (Beauty and the Beast, Annie, Seussical the Musical, Curtains, Shrek the Musical), and Choreographer (Annie, Shrek the Musical), who enjoys composing and arranging.
Mitchell remains in daily awe of the wonderful performers and humans he gets to work with on a daily basis, and is happy to have a place to share his love of the arts with other passionate artists!
