Biography

Sasha Tait is an award-winning and critically acclaimed soprano who holds graduate Voice Performance degrees from the University of Toronto and UBC, with additional post-graduate studies in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria. Her most recent operatic role was as the title character in Haydn’s Armida in Vienna. The Austrian national press called her a singing actress of “great sensitivity (and)… upmost artistic perfection in the coloratura passages” (Die Krönnenzeitung, Vienna). She also won the award for “Best Female Voice” at the International Gilbert Sullivan Festival in Buxton England for her portrayal of Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance. She has sung numerous operatic roles both in Canada and Europe and she is an alumna of the Vancouver Opera Touring Ensemble singing far too many performances of The Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute. Equally comfortable in musical theatre, oratorio and art song, she is the recipient of awards from the Canada Council for the Arts and the British Columbia Arts Council, and she has been recorded and aired by CBC Radio 2.

As a teacher, Sasha’s goal is always to equip her students with the skills they will need to pursue their music-making goals with confidence and competence, wherever that path takes them. Her focus is always on healthy vocal technique that is pedagogically sound, strong musical skills and expressive story-telling. Sasha is also keenly aware of the mental health benefits of singing. Feeling anxious? Let’s get singing! Students can then apply all of their skills to any genre of music as their interests evolve over time. Sasha teaches students of all levels from complete beginners to professionals, and of all ages. In her private studio in Port Perry, she also runs small group classes for mature students. Entitled “Singing and the Aging Voice,” the short course focuses on the vocal challenges of choral singers over the age of fifty. Many of her teenage students go on to pursue voice at the post-secondary and professional level, gaining admittance to top programs of their choice for both traditional Performance, Musical Theatre and Music Therapy programs at the University of Toronto, Wilfred Laurier, Western, Sheraton, Randolph College for the Performing Arts, St. Lawrence College and The Royal College of Music, UK. Sasha is thrilled to be joining the faculty at Bravo Academy and can’t wait to get started with such a talented group of young singers in September.
